Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

As an international student in Australia, you are required to have adequate Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). All international students (and their dependents) require OSHC for the entire duration of your study in Australia.

OSHC assists international students to meet the costs of medical and hospital care they may need while studying in Australia. OSHC provides access to medical and healthcare practitioners for routine checkups and emergencies, as well as ambulance cover and access to limited pharmaceuticals. Learn more about OSHC, including a list of the providers at www.privatehealth.gov.au/.

LCI Melbourne's campus is only a 10-minute drive to St. Vincent's Hospital and there are many general practitioners, healthcare specialists and pharmacies in Collingwood and surrounding suburbs.

Medicare and OSHC

If you are in Australia on a student visa from the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia, Italy or New Zealand, you can also apply for Medicare under your country's Reciprocal Health Care Agreements.

Any Medicare coverage you are entitled to under a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement will be in addition to OSHC. Having reciprocal access to Medicare does not exempt you from needing to take out OSHC.
