From Studio to Global Stage

At LCI Melbourne, real-world learning isn't a selling point. It's a standard of practice — and our Fashion & Costume Design program keeps proving it.

A woman in a voluminous black dress and messy hair poses for a photoshoot, with additional images from the shoot and a magazine cover.

Over the past year, a remarkable run of editorial placements has seen LCI Melbourne students and graduates featured in some of the world's most recognised fashion publications: Alice.D Magazine, Harper's Bazaar Ecuador, Vanguard Magazine, and Grazia Malaysia. These aren't student showcases or institutional promotions — they're genuine editorial commissions, styled and produced by leading industry professionals, with our students' names in the credits alongside established practitioners at the top of their fields.

Graduates Ella Atkins and Jordan Williamson had their designs featured in Alice.D Magazine's Superstition issue as part of the editorial "Taxidermy." Graduate Eli Rizzo saw their garment published in Harper's Bazaar Ecuador as part of "El volumen del silencio" — an editorial exploring texture, presence, and emotion. Students Rhiannon Todd, Margaret Hogan, and Caroline Caroline had their work featured in Vanguard Magazine's Big Sister edition as part of the "Scopa!" editorial, with graduates Caroline Caroline and Valentina Barrios also contributing as stylist assistants. Current student Ivan Sergio Ordax had his work published in Grazia Malaysia (December 2025/January 2026) as part of "This Is The Way My Life Unfolds." And most recently, graduates Leah Wilkinson and Valentina Barrios had their capstone collection featured in Harper's Bazaar Ecuador as part of "The Shape of the Body" — art direction, styling, and production by Carlos Mangubat.

And the momentum continues. Current Fashion & Costume Design student Claire Moffat (designing as @dizziefrancis) has just been featured in the 200th issue of Fashion Journal, styled by Stuart Walford and photographed by Jordan Drysdale — another genuine industry placement, not a classroom exercise.

"The most meaningful thing we can offer our students is not just knowledge — it is access. When their work appears in international publications alongside established practitioners, something shifts. They stop thinking of themselves as students waiting to enter the industry and start thinking of themselves as designers already working in it. That shift is the whole point."
— Adriano Di Prato, Campus Director, LCI Melbourne – Institute of Higher Education

It's also worth noting that several of those featured aren't just recent graduates — they came back, as collaborators, as assistants, as part of the creative team. That's what a healthy alumni ecosystem looks like, and it's something we're proud to see taking shape around our Fashion & Costume Design community.

Congratulations to every student and graduate whose work and creative courage made these moments possible — and thank you to Carlos, Joëlle, Darran, and all the industry partners who continue to invest in the next generation of Australian design talent.
