On Wednesday 28 May, LCI Melbourne proudly hosted a memorable campus visit for players of the CommBank Matildas, Australia’s national women’s football team as part of our official partnership with Football Australia. The event was an incredible opportunity for students to connect with elite athletes and explore the shared values of creativity, resilience, and personal growth that drive both sport and design.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome followed by a guided tour of the Melbourne campus, offering the CommBank Matildas a firsthand look at our dynamic learning spaces, including the fashion and art studios.
One of the highlights of the morning was a series of one-on-one interviews where students paired up with the CommBank Matildas to ask thought-provoking questions about creativity, teamwork, and overcoming challenges - both on the pitch and in life. Conversations touched on what it means to ‘play different’, the importance of learning from others, and the value of persistence and practice in any career. The relaxed, conversational format gave students a rare opportunity to engage in authentic, inspiring dialogue with some of Australia’s top athletes.
The visit continued with a morning tea where students, staff, and members of the LCI leadership team mingled with the players, celebrating the connections formed and the stories shared. Before departing, each CommBank Matildas player recorded a personalised welcome message for incoming LCI Melbourne students, offering advice and encouragement as they embark on their own creative journeys.
The visit highlighted the importance of creativity not just in the arts, but across all industries, including elite sport, and demonstrated how partnerships like this can open doors and spark conversations that shape the next generation of creative leaders.
It was a day filled with inspiration, community, and meaningful connections. One that will no doubt be remembered by students and staff alike for years to come.
