Typography in Bloom

Maddison’s winning piece, ‘Swarm’, emerged from an assignment that took her to the Melbourne Museum where she embarked on a creative exploration of the insect world. Transforming scientific drawings into a captivating work of art, Maddison's imaginative prowess led to her creating a fusion of nature and machinery, which led to the concept of the ‘Beedozer.’

“This process involved listing as many bugs as I could think of and pairing them with machine parts. I sketched out the bugs with the mechanical elements before hand-painting them." Says Maddison.

Maddison's work garnered recognition across borders, as she was featured in both the Australian and New Zealand competition and won both! Her work was commended for its outstanding concept and execution which demonstrated a harmonious blend of colour palette, typography and illustration.

Maddison's journey from the Melbourne Museum to the winner of the Ball and Doggett Design Competition in both the Australian and New Zealand reflects her exceptional talent and innovative approach to design.
