Maddison Bayliss' Journey at the Global Student Entrepreneurship Contest
“I had never even left Australia and now I’m going to the other side of the world.”
Inspired by her sister who’s a paramedic and her mother who’s a nurse, Maddison's idea for a paracetamol company that funds medicine and food clinics to address the barriers homeless communities face when accessing basic medical treatments.
Maddison’s trip included cultural experiences like boat rides, jazz festivals and exploring the Notre-Dame.
Participating in the GSEC provided Maddison with learning and development opportunities. Maddison valued the opportunity to improve her public speaking skills and felt confident when addressing the audience.
The contest also deepened her understanding of business fundamentals, including the intricacies of running and organising a business.
“LCI Melbourne helped support and develop my idea.”
“We did several interviews and then trial pitches for the regional finals to make sure I was prepared and confident in my presentation.”
Interacting with other participants and learning from their ideas was another highlight for Maddison. The innovative ideas from around the world, such as eco-friendly leather made from fish skins and the integration of AI into underprivileged communities, provided Maddison with a broader perspective on entrepreneurship and creativity.
“Hopefully one day I can make what I presented into a reality, run the business, help plenty of people and integrate creativity into medicine.”
