Winner of GOTYA 2024: Julia Howe’s Creative Journey

A place for connection

When Julia Howe enrolled at LCI Melbourne, she wasn’t just looking for a design school – she was searching for a creative community that would support her every step of the way. “I wanted a smaller, more supportive environment where I could get one-on-one help,” Julia shared. At LCI Melbourne, she found the space to explore her individuality, take creative risks and work on meaningful, real-world projects.

Combining innovation, social impact and personal experience.

As the 2024 GOTYA winner, Julia’s projects showcase her ability to merge creativity with purpose. One of her standout projects was a full rebrand of her grandparents’ sheep farm. “Their old website even had two home buttons,” she laughed. From logo design to website development, Julia brought a modern vision to the brand while collaborating closely with her family.

In her second project, Julia channeled activism through design. As part of a third-trimester classroom project for Amnesty International, she created custom packaging that used human rights messaging to spark engagement with critical issues.

Her final project, ‘Ivie and Spoon,’ was inspired by her personal experience with chronic illness. This product line merges style and function, offering young women aesthetic alternatives to clunky pill cases. “I wanted to create something that’s practical yet beautiful”

Empowered to succeed

Julia credits LCI Melbourne’s unique approach to learning for her success. “It was really nice to know LCI Melbourne were happy to nominate me for GOTYA and spend that money on me to give me a boost” she shared. “Having sub-majors has been a big advantage. It’s made me a broader candidate for jobs because I can confidently say I’ve gained skills across multiple areas.”
