From classroom to catwalk – Rylee Martinsen's journey at LCI Melbourne

As the LCI Melbourne Fashion & Costume Graduate Runway approaches, emerging designer Rylee Martinsen prepares to debut her latest collection.

Inspired by the female form and nature, her designs incorporate textures resembling moss, bark and feathers to highlight environmental issues like deforestation.

Rylee’s passion for design began at age 11, learning to sew from her grandmother. After working in film and TV, she discovered a love for costume and production design, leading her to LCI Melbourne, where she could explore both fashion and costume. Throughout her studies, she gained the confidence to experiment, push creative boundaries and refine her artistic vision.

“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be proud of my work,” she says.

Surrounded by mentors and like-minded peers, Rylee found invaluable support that helped shape her journey. The collaborative environment at LCI Melbourne encouraged her to take risks and develop her own signature style.

Showcasing her work on the Fashion & Costume Graduate Runway is a defining moment in her creative career. “It feels wonderful knowing all my hard work has paid off,” she shares.

Looking ahead, Rylee is launching her career with a focus on couture and bridal wear, while also building her own brand. Rylee’s collection is a bold statement of her talent and passion — one that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
